Help me Light The Night!!!
As most of you know I was diagnosed with AML Luekemia in May 2007. I underwent a stem cell transplant in September 07. My awesome brother was my donor!!!!
Unfortunately the good times came to a hault when my cancer relapse one year later. The news hit me pretty bad; but you all know I can never give up. I started an experimental drug this time around to help keep the cancer away. BUT, the cancer wanted to go for round 3. In Janurary I relapsed for the 3rd time. This time I had enough!!! I went through more intensive chemo with full body raditation, which I never had before. I wouldn't recommend it (it gives your skin a tan though!!) I followed up with another stem cell transplant. My brother was again my donor, they kept his good stuff nice and frozen for me!
In mid August 09, I went in for my 6 month biopsy and was told that my last treatment/transplant failed again. This was something so unexpected that I am having a hard time dealing with this once again. My doctors are working on a new treatment regime in which I can remain in school and live a day to day life without being isolated in a hospital.
Update: I started my first week round of treatment, and so far the normal side effects happened- whelts at the injection site followed by some nasuea. My immune system is quite low, and I have been receiveing plattlet and blood transfusions to keep me steady. It has been a balancing act trying to focus on school at the same time, but I could not see myself anywhere else right now. I have good days and bad ones. I am trying my hardest to keep my sprirts up and see the brighter future. I am determined there will be one.
Update: What a success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though the weather did not go our way (thanks IL), it was an amazing time. This walk brought together people from with many different stories on why they walk, and it was a great experience to share with my friends and family. I truly appreciate everyone who has contributed to this amazing cause. Your support gives me a reason to fight and beat this thing. YOURE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is still time to donate!!!!
This is why this event is so important to me. Other people should not have to go through what I am going through. We need a definate cure! I was really hoping to walk as a survivor, but I will be walking as a fighter. PLEASE help me try and find a cure.
Your donations REALLY matter:
- A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.
- A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.
- A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
Please make a donation to support my participation in the Light The Night Walk and help save lives!!!!!
THANKS for your support!
