Walking in memory of my mom, a Bright Light.
Thanks for visiting my Light The Night homepage. I am walking as part of Patty's Team, which was started in 2002 by my mom, Patty Rosing Murphy, in honor of her "1st birthday" after under-going a stem cell transplant as part of her treatment for lymphoma.
For the next 5 years, my mom participated in the Light the Night Walk at UCLA with me and my aunts, helping to raise money for the Society's cancer research. That research has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and many other types of cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants that have prolonged and enhanced the lives of patients.
On December 28, 2006, my mom passed away from bone marrow failure, which the doctors believed was a delayed side effect caused by the chemo and radiation treatments that had helped her go into remission 5 years earlier. Hopefully, some of the money we raise will help to fund research that will come up with an even more successful treatment that doesn't have the possibility of causing the same unfortunate side effects.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of patients battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.
I know things are tough for a lot of people right now, but it would be greatly appreciated if you could please make a donation to support my Light The Night Walk in my mom's memory and help save lives.
Thank you very much for your support!
