UPDATE: October 4, 2009:
I want to thank all the team members for their hard work in raising funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society! I also wanted to highlight that several people have collected what are known as 'offline' donations. These donations don't appear until the funds are turned in the night of the event.
Including the offline donations of $165, Team Suzie has so far raised $1395!!

Team Suzie team is walking to honor Suzie Frank's battle against myelofibrosis. If you know Suzie or someone who is currently battling or is a survivor of leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma, please walk with us on October 15th at Boston Common! I'm hoping to have a team t-shirt or hat - something to identify us all! The picture at the right is mom walking with Relay for Life in Dacula, GA. My brother's school participates every year to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society.
Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost. Suzie's family and friends turned to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for information once she was diagnosed. The work the Society does is amazing!
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. These treatments have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.
- A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.
- A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.
- A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
- A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.
Please join my team to show your support! There is no fundraising minimum, but at least $100 in donations (not $25 like I thought) is required to receive a Light the Night t-shirt and a supporter balloon at the walk. In 2008, over 2000 walkers participated in the Boston walk.
Be sure to check back often to see the team progress and thanks for your support! For more information on my mom's progress, please check out the Team Suzie blog!
