Help Me "Light the Night"!

I am proud to return as the captain of the Worcester leg of Team Jack's Mannequin for the second year. Last year, the Worcester team raised over $2000 to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and I am hopeful that this year, we will raise even more. In the process, we will fight cancer, remember loved ones, and make close friendships with others who are as passionate about giving back as they are about the first thing that bonds us: our love of music.

I feel as though the majority of us know someone, or have known someone, with cancer. That is why Light the Night is so important to me. Cancer has certainly impacted my life and I want to take it upon myself to fight it via this walk for all those who have had to fight themselves.

I am walking in honor of three groups of people. The first is my relatives and loved ones who have or have had cancer. Without these people, I would not be the person I am. Secondly, I am walking for Andrew McMahon. A survivor himself, Andrew has effected my life through his music in ways that I cannot understand. I am proud to be a fan of a man who creates the Jack's Mannequin team every year and has already raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight cancer through the Dear Jack Foundation. Finally, I am walking in memory of Matt Cwiertny. Matt was not only a fan of Jack's Mannequin, but he was a member of this wonderful team. His family has raised thousands of dollars over the years and have truly inspired me in so many ways. Last year, our amazing teammate passed away due to this awful disease but his friends will continue to fight for him.

I am asking for your donations for all of these reasons and more. Please keep in mind that every penny makes a difference and that I do not expect you to be able to donate an excessive amount of money. A donation of any size can help save a life.

Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. These treatments have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.

• A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.
• A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.
• A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
• A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.
