The walk may be over, but it's not too late to support this worthy cause!! We have until the end of the year to meet our goal.
E. Cohen & Company, CPAs is proud to participate in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Light The Night Walk (held on October 22, 2011). The Walk takes place in the evening and walkers carry illuminated balloons -- white for patients and survivors, red for supporters, and gold for those who have lost their battle to blood cancer. Anyone can take part -- children, adults and seniors are welcome! It's a casual fundraising event with music, food and fun prior to the Walk. It's an amazing night! We hope you will consider joining us next year!
Many of us have felt the impact of cancer in our lives and many members of the ECC team walking for Light The Night has a story. Each member's story will be featured in upcoming ECC newsletters before the walk (http://www.ecohencpas.com/accounting-newsletter.html).
We begin with Alex's personal story and connection with Leukemia, followed by other ECC team members' stories.
Alex's Story:
As many of you know, my wife Robi passed away in July, 1999 from Leukemia. Robi was diagnosed in 1992 with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and in 1994 had a bone marrow transplant to hopefully cure her of the disease. Unfortunately, the leukemia recurred five years later in an acute form and she did not survive. Robi left behind four young children, a husband, parents, brothers and sister and friends; all who miss her. The goal is to prevent as many as possible from suffering the same fate.
Since then there have been significant strides in the treatment of blood cancers and the survival rates are much higher. However, the number of people diagnosed with blood cancers continues to increase and the survival rate is not where it needs to be.
Toni's Story:
The diseases targeted by the LLS have touched many of us at ECC personally. For myself I lost a grandmother I never had the opportunity to meet from leukemia when my father was in his teens. Also, my father-in-law lost his long battle with lymphoma shortly after my marriage. He, too, left behind children still in their teens.
Normally our firm contributions are limited to employees joining together to make a group contribution; but since these diseases have touched so many of us we decided to extend the giving opportunities to everyone we know to make a significant difference.
If you believe, as we do, in the mission of the LLS please consider sponsoring either myself or our team. I want to thank you for your consideration and appreciate you taking the time to read my story.
