As many of you know, several years ago my Dad, Rich Zavadowski, was diagnosed with a very rare, very aggressive lymphoma (called peripheral t-cell lymphoma). Unfortunately, because this type is so rare, doctors around the world simply don't know enough for standardized treatment.
But the good news is, my Dad was accepted into a research protocol at the NIH's National Cancer Institute. And because of the research my Dad participated in, not only was he part of helping doctor's move one step closer to a cure, but he's also CANCER-FREE. In fact, in September 2011, we celebrated his three year "all clear" checkup!
Plus, my Mom, Mary Ann Zavadowski, is also a breast cancer survivor. Thanks to cutting edge medical science, she is now celebrating her 9th year cancer free. To say all of this is a blessing would be an understatement. ;)
However, the fight against cancer is still raging on....and I'm asking for YOUR help to make sure this valuable research continues, and to celebrate this important milestone for our family and friends! That's why this year I'm on the National Capital Area's Leadership Team for their "Light the Night" walks -- the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event.
For more than 60 years, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has been solely focused on people with blood cancers. Presently, they have more than $250 million committed to research across the United States and in ten other countries. Every dollar is provided by concerned donors. They invest in the best, outcome-based science: a) Anywhere, with no geographic or institutional boundaries, b) Without profit incentive and c) To meet unmet Medicare needs of people with blood cancers.
So how can you help support these life-saving endeavors? Glad you asked! :) Here's the easiest way to support "Team Zavadowski"...
Please donate on this page by clicking "Donate Now" on the right-hand side. ANY amount makes a difference, and you'll join hundreds of thousands of people supporting this all-important event!
Keep in mind, LLS-funded advances are helping patients beyond those for whom they were originally developed, including people with solid tumors and auto-immune diseases. In the past decade, nearly 50% (19 out of 39) of the cancer drugs approved by the FDA were approved as treatments for blood cancer patients. Twelve are already approved for people beyond those for whom they were first developed. With your help, we are saving lives....
Remember, we all know someone who has been affected by cancer. With "Light the Night", it's our chance to "walk the talk" and make a difference.
Please make a donation to support my participation in the Light The Night Walk and help save lives. Be sure to check my Web site frequently to see my progress, and thanks for your support!
