Welcome to my Light The Night page! I'm walking to Kick Cancer to the Curb! Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost. This year's Light The Night Walk is on Saturday, October 17, 2009. WHY I'M WALKING: This year, it has seemed like cancer is all around. What I've learned though is that while it can be scary, it also unites people and helps us all fight for the same cause. I want to be serious about that fight and do my part to help in finding a cure for blood cancers. I am walking in Honor of my Matron of Honor, Karin Diamond, diagnosed with Stage 4B Hodgkins Lymphoma this past May. I am also walking in Honor of other family members that have been affected by blood cancer this year, and in memory of my uncle, Ron Orbacz. Check out Karin's blog: http://eyespeeledalways.blogspot.com/ HOW YOU CAN HELP: Steve and I have decided to start a team on behalf of the World Adult Kickball Association (WAKA). While the idea of adult kickball itself might draw some laughs, we think it's a perfect organization to help spread the word about LLS among young adults in DC. If you'd like to contribute to my walk, that would be wonderful! But if you'd rather join our team and experience the Walk yourself, then please feel free. Be sure to check my website frequently to see my progress, and thank you all so much for your support and donations! |
