Welcome to my Light The Night Walk homepage.

Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.

In fact, in 2009 alone, LLS researchers were conducting more than 90 clinical trials, a critical step in the development of new treatments and cures that will help patients live better, longer lives.

  • A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.
  • A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.
  • A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
  • A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.

Please make a donation to support my participation in the Light The Night Walk and help save lives. Be sure to check my Web site frequently to see my progress, and thanks for your support!

A few things you should know...

My name is Susan Angus. I currently attend the University of Florida and am pursuing my degree in Telecommunications-production with a minor in Creative Writing. I have lived in Florida practically all my life. I've got the best friends and family that the world could ever ask for and I know they've got my back, always. I'm a self-titled philanthropist who loves to help out when possible. I'm a registered blood donor, bone marrow donor, and organ donor. I donate food, time, and money when the opportunities arise as well, and I tend to be overly-passionate sometimes about all of these causes.

If there's anything you need to know about me though, it's this: music has made me what I am today and I don't know who or where I'd be without it. It has driven me to be the adult that I am growing up to be and is the reason I am here in the first place. I am here because of a man, who I believe, is responsible for defining a genre all its own. Without him, the music that defines me wouldn't be around, and without that, I'd just be another lost little girl roaming the streets of this world. I owe this man so much....much more than I could ever put into words.

So, when I was fourteen-years-old, I became passionate about this cause, as at this time Andrew McMahon (frontman of Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin) was diagnosed with leukemia. After seeing someone that I completely idolized, admired, and respected above all else, go through the whole ordeal of leukemia, I knew I had to stand up in his honor and make a difference.

As soon as I woke up on the day of my eighteenth birthday, I rushed to my computer to register to become a bone marrow donor. There is such a lack of registered donors and it breaks my heart every day because I know all the statistics, and I know that if people were better educated that they would probably be more willing to sign-up and help save someone's life. I mean, you could be someone's only hope at living.

So with this walk, and with the support of the Dear Jack Foundation and Andrew McMahon, and hopefully some support from all of you, I'll be able to raise money to help fund more research and education on blood illnesses that affect so many people around the world.

Thank you for anything you can donate. The smallest bit counts.

If interested, log on to www.marrow.org or www.dkmsamericas.org to learn more about bone marrow donation and to learn more about becoming a donor. Please register to become a bone marrow donor, if you're qualified, because you could be someone's cure-their only cure.
