Matt's Mitzvah Mission
Apr 02, 2009 by Matthew Daniels

I'm borrowing this page.
But it's okay because my friends at LLS let me to make fundraising easier.
Let me explain.
My name is Matthew Daniels and I will become a bar mitzvah on January 9, 2010. For my bar mitzvah project, I am raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Below you can read:
- Why I chose to raise funds for LLS
- About my baseball voucher fundraising
- About my karate fundraising

Why Raise Funds for LLS?
I have many reasons for doing this. One is that I had a grandma whom I never met that died from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia before I was born. She was fortunate enough to have the care that was accessible at that time and always appreciated the help of the foundation's research and her physicians.
I also had one Great Uncle who suffered from Lymphoma before, sadly, he passed away. However, thanks to ongoing research, I will be able to see my other Great Uncle who is a Lymphoma survivor at my cousin's bar mitzvah this May and at my bar mitzvah in January.
And finally, family, friends, and fellow residents of Metuchen-Edison, NJ have also suffered due to leukemia and lymphoma. Some have recovered, and some have lost dear family members.
In addition to general fundraising through this really cool web page, there are two specific events I am organizing involving two of my and many other people's favorite activities: baseball and karate.
You can read more about them here, or just scroll down to the bottom part of the page to read more about a few of the things your donation dollars do.
Donating on line is easy and safe and $1,000 is a very realistic goal with the events we have planned. I hope you will participate.
Thanks,
Matt

About the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. These treatments have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.
- A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.
- A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.
- A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
- A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.
