The Stevens family will participate in the LLS's 'Light the Night' walk across the Brooklyn Bridge

This November 14th will mark three years since Kate received her bone marrow transplant from sister Caroline.
Kate continues to do very well and enjoys an active, ‘normal’ lifestyle as a third grader at Milton School in Rye. She plays on a travel soccer team, swims, and still loves the piano. Kate’s siblings are all happy and well – and as devoted to Kate as ever. Caroline is in the second grade, and Charlie and Jack are in pre-school.
Kate continues to be monitored quarterly at Sloan-Kettering. While in a “livable” risk-of-relapse statistical bucket, it is the five year post-transplant milestone on which the Stevens family remains focused. After November 2012, Kate will be considered a ‘survivor.’ She will have ‘won’ the battle; the risk of relapse drops definitively - to almost ‘normal’ levels. Again, the family feels incredibly fortunate and hopes that Kate’s extraordinary courage and spirit continue to serve as inspiration – as it has to her family.
On Thursday, October 14th, Kate and her family will participate in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge – as members of The Lymphomaniacs, a charity effort launched in ‘09 by Lance Meyerowich (a lymphoma survivor and friend of the Stevens family). Last October, through brutally cold wind and rain, Lance, Scot, and team walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and raised over $135,000 (!). Last November, Kate, Scot, Lance and The Lymphomaniacs could be seen on CNBC ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (link below).
This year, The Lymphomaniacs are committed to raising $200,000. Please consider helping the team reach its goal by joining (!) the Stevens on the walk or making a donation. Donations truly make a difference: The survival rate for pediatric leukemia has tripled over the last 40 years, with the help of LLS’ research funding; however, there is more work to be done – leukemia is still the leading cause of cancer death among children and young adults.
Thank you very much for your continued support. It means so much to Kate, to us, and to all of those battling cancer.
Love,
The Stevens
