So... what is the Light The Night Walk?
Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.
Why is Marshall Advertising walking?
We are walking in honor of Matt Cwiertny. Matt is one of the newer members of the Marshall family and brother to Eric, Marshall's Co-Creative Director. Matt has already undergone a Bone Marrow Transplant to fight a rare Epstein-Barr virus induced immune disorder (Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis) and N/K T-Cell Lymphoma. He continues to receive care and treatments to fend off recurrences and hopefully achieve a long-term remission. By raising funds and walking in his honor, we can help Matt, and those in similar circumstances, receive the help they need to fight blood cancers and eventually help researchers find a cure.
About the Team we walk for.
Team Jack's Mannequin is comprised of individuals who are fans of the band Jack's Mannequin and its front man/lead singer, Andrew McMahon (a leukemia survivor and a hero/friend of Matt's--seen with Matt in the above photo), and who are dedicated to raising funds for research to help eradicate leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. Last year, Team Jack's Mannequin - Anaheim raised over $17,000 to fight blood cancers, and received an $11,000 matching grant from Andrew McMahon's foundation, Dear Jack. Nationwide, Team Jack's Mannequin raised over $100,000 and had a research grant named in its honor. We are always looking for new walkers, and hope you will join us on August 22, 2009.
More on the LLS.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. These treatments have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.
A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.
A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.
A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
A donation of $1,000 makes possible one-on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.
Please make a donation to support our participation in the Light The Night Walk and help save lives. Be sure to check this Web site frequently to see our progress, and thanks for your support!
