LIGHT THE NIGHT ANAHEIM WALK IS LESS THAN A MONTH AWAY!

This is my first time participating in any kind of cause / event, and I'm really excited because I am walking in honor of my mom.

Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.

My mom was such an extraordinary woman and fought so hard to stay alive. Her faith and hope inspired every one who knew her. She was a positive ,beautiful and wonderful Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, and friend. She lived her life to the fullest and for others and especially for God. She was a light in our lives. In 2000 she was diagnosed with AML Leukemia, and went through chemo, radiation, and a bonemarrow transplant. She stayed at City of Hope hospital for months while she underwent treatments. Finally, 5 months later, she came home. She remained in remission for 5 years ; In the Fall of 2005, she got a phone call from her beloved Dr. Parker: the cancer was back. Week by week the white blood cell count jumped, and she had to make a decision to go through treaments AGAIN. Her body was already weak from years past and from the daily stuggle and fatigue that goes on when remission, Treatments began in October. Chemo Round 1 didn't work......she went through another round. Another bone marrow transplant was needed. My mom's brother was her doner both times.

My mom's lungs where beginning to give out on her, along with some of her other organs. The last night I talked to her (as HER) was on my 21st birthday. The next day, Feb. 2 2006, she slipped into a coma. She never came out of it. She passed away two weeks shy of her 50th bithday, on March 15, 2006

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. These treatments have helped patients live better, longer lives. They helped my mom stay in remission for 5 years after her first diagnosis in 2000, and I thank God and the doctors at City of Hope (Duarte, CA) for giving our family and her that extra time.
