Welcome to our Team's Homepage

Dear Friends,

We are pleased and excited to announce that Progressive Community Management has made a commitment to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night® Walk for our 7th year. Seven years ago, we formed the Laurie’s Lifesavers Team to support our own Laurie Clark after she was diagnosed with lymphoma. Laurie is doing wonderfully, thanks to the research and new treatment drugs that have become available as a direct result of generous donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Last year we formed a new team, WINNing the Fight, to honor of our friend, John Winn and his family. Here is a bit about John (please read his full story via the link below):

On June 1, 2009, I was in the midst of transitioning between competitors in a tough technology market days after my son Jack was born. It was a glorious time for my wife Lindsay and I. I was beaming as a new dad with a new career path with passion. However, now I realized I was lost. Chasing the dream and not smelling the roses along the way. That would eventually all be right sized when a diagnosis for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma landed on my plate that first day in June.

I didn't know what it was at first. I had never heard of it. Cancer? No way. Not me. To top things off, my father, Charles Winn, Sr. died unexpectedly on May 27th of the same year. My world was not shinning anymore. We were in survival mode -- and shock. I lost my hero, who never got to see my son born two days later, and help me through the medical journey that was ahead.

This fight though I had to take on myself. I decided to put my cancer in a bucket. Just like I do with everything else. I have a husband bucket, a father bucket, a family bucket, a cancer bucket, a job bucket, etc. Cancer was not going to beat me. It was just a piece of me.

I went through 6 rounds of outpatient chemotherapy that didn't work. My organs started to fail as the Lymphoma took over at Christmas time 2009. It was out of my hands at that point. God, my family and support system and the great medical staff at The City of Hope took over. I almost lost my life twice during this period, but here I stand - continuing the fight.

I was able to undergo a bone marrow transplant (BMT) on May 5th of 2010. A new birthday for me to celebrate. We were so excited. Finally, I was going to be able to spend sometime outside the confines of an isolated hospital room. The BMT did the trick. It put me in remission for nearly 11 months. That 11 months gave me the time back with my son and my family. I was, and still am, able to watch him grow, laugh, pout, smell the roses, catch lizards, play cars, and color. What more could a dad ask for? I was in heaven.

Unfortunately, the Lymphoma cells had a different plan. The cancer is back as of April 2011 and I am currently undergoing an aggressive in-patient chemotherapy that will put me back in the position to receive yet another BMT coming this summer 2011. The second BMT is likely to put me back into remission for a much longer time - hopefully forever.

The future is bright for me. I am truly blessed with an amazing, healthy son and wife along with an extraordinary support system that is pulling and praying for us every day. So, step up. Light the Night for people like me who need people like you to be generous. You can also follow my blog at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/johnwinn/journal for updates on my journey. I will continue this fight until we Winn!

Our Laurie is proof that with proper treatment, love, support and encouragement wonderful things are possible. It is now our turn to do the same for John and his family! Over the past six years combined our team has raised over $100,000 and have been the #1 fundraiser for a company of our size. We know that this year is a tough year for all of us, but we can’t do it without your support and ask for your assistance once again. Our Team, WINNing the Fight, will be participating in the September 17, 2011 Light the Night event at Angel Stadium. Light the Night is an annual, evening family fundraising walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer.

There are several ways to help and we hope you’ll agree with us that this cause if worthy of your generous support:

  • Come to our Improv Night of Comedy - Laughter is the Best Medicine- on Monday, August 29th.
  • Enjoy a sugary treat from our Bake Sale - Trabuco Highlands Soccer Fields on Saturday, September 10th.
  • Join us at the Light the Night walk on September 17th.
  • Try out your golfing skills at our Golf Tournament - Aliso Viejo Country Club - Monday, September 26th.

For more details on these events, please log onto: www.progressivecm.com and follow our Light the Night link. Or PLEASE join us by making an online donation by August 30th by mail to our office or make a online donation on this webpage.

All tax deductible donations should be made payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS). It is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. LLS meets the standards of the Better Business Bureau for charitable accountability. We encourage you to join the team and help us exceed the $15,000.00 goal we’ve set. Every dollar counts!

If you have any questions or would like to join us in our Walk, please call us at (949) 582-7770. Thank you in advance for your support, which will help save lives.
