Welcome to Progressive Community Management's Fundraising Page
Aug 11, 2016

Dear Friends,

We are pleased and excited to announce that Progressive Community Management has made a commitment to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night® Walk for our 12th year.  Twelve years ago, we formed the Laurie’s Lifesavers Team to support our own Laurie Clark after she was diagnosed with lymphoma. Laurie is doing wonderfully, thanks to the research and new treatment drugs that have become available as a direct result of generous donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

This year our Team will be named Good Mojo for JoJo to WINN the Fight in honor of our forever hero, John Winn and our newest hero, JoJo Alonzo. Please see more information below about JoJo’s story.

It is because of JoJo, Laurie, and John that we work so hard every year to raise money to help find a cure for blood cancers. If you don’t already know someone close to you that has blood cancers, unfortunately, it is likely that you will in the near future.  Over 1,000,000 patients are battling blood cancers right now.  Without the drugs that have already been developed and are continuing to be developed, the number of patients lost would be considerably more than it is today.  Now is the time to help!

Here is a bit about JoJo Alonzo:

In January 2015, while Joanna ”JoJo” Alonzo, a mild mannered 29 year old woman, was minding her own business being a lover of Star Wars, comic books, and a creative plushie crafter she began having abdominal pain. After bloodwork and ultimately a liver biopsy she was diagnosed with Stage 3 Large B cell Lymphoma (later upgraded to Stage 4) much to her surprise. Aside from the battle that lied ahead…she had to try to wrap her brain around the possibility of not being able to have children due to the radiation (22 treatments) and chemo treatments she would endure…after completing her chemo course on May 11, 2015, she is now considered to be in remission!  Although the process was draining she remained strong and kept her spirits high with the support of her family and friends. With her mother and father living in Mexico, her boyfriend Jake was always by her side, making sure she was never alone.

This quote from JoJo for this photo says it all about this resilient and amazing young woman…This is JoJo coming out of her last cycle. She wore her Phoenix shirt (one of her favorite woman superheroes).  She felt it was appropriate as she is one of the most powerful of the marvel universe.  With the funds raised by Light the Night and LLS, drugs like Rituxan were developed to enable this.

“Phoenix to rise from the ashes!”

Here is a bit about John Winn:

In June 2009 John Winn was starting a new job, had his first baby, lost his father and was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma all in the same week. His son, Jack, was born days before his diagnosis. John became a fighter so he could be there for Jack and his wonderful wife, Lindsay. During his 2 ½ year battle, John underwent two bone marrow transplants and numerous hospital stays. Even through the storm, John was upbeat, positive and ready to fight the Lymphoma.

Now Lindsay and Jack are ready to continue the Fight in John’s memory. For those of you that had the opportunity to meet John, you know how inspirational he will always be.  For John and many others, we continue this effort!

Our Laurie is proof that with proper treatment, love, support and encouragement wonderful things are possible.   We now want to share this with JoJo.

Over the past twelve years combined our team has raised over $250,000 and has been a top fundraiser for a company of our size. We thank you for your ongoing support and once again look to you to share in our fight to fund the needed research to find cures for our friends and loved ones.  Our Team, Good Mojo for JoJo to WINN the Fight, will be participating in the September 24, 2016 Light the Night event at Angel Stadium. Light the Night is an annual, evening family fundraising walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer.

There are several ways to help and we hope you’ll agree with us that this cause is worthy of your generous support.

All tax deductible donations should be made payable to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (Tax ID 13-5644916), the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The Society meets the standards of the Better Business Bureau for charitable accountability. We encourage you to join the team and help us exceed the $25,000.00 goal we’ve set.  Every dollar counts!

Today, LLS is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to finding cures for leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood cancers. To date, LLS has invested more than $1 billion in cutting-edge research to advance therapies while also providing support and advocacy programs that have helped millions of patients navigate their treatments and access quality, affordable and coordinated care. Thanks to research, survival rates for patients with many blood cancers have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled since the early 1960s. Yet, despite these advances, about one third of patients with a blood cancer still do not survive even five years after their diagnosis.

If you have any questions or would like to join us in our Walk, please call us at (949) 582-7770. Thank you in advance for your support, which will help save lives.

Warm Regards,

Progressive Community Management
