we walk for... Mandy's mom
Sep 17, 2011 by Megan Greaves

This year I will be proudly representing Audrie, my friend LeAnn's mother, who has Leukemia & Lymphoma, and everyone else who has been lost to or still continues to battle Leukemia or Lymphoma. But the real step in my walk is for my mom, Cyndi, who was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2007 and continues regular treatment to keep the cancer from spreading. Her strength and perseverance amaze me every day. I am so thankful for the work of the Leukemia & Lymphoma society that has developed the medicines that have saved my mother's life, and I am hopeful that through continued work they may someday have a cure for my mom's cancer. Until then, thank you to everyone who helps support the cause through work, finances, thoughts, and prayer!

My mom is Marilee Shrader and she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma cancer in July 2005. The doctors gave her 1-2 years to live since this cancer was so aggressive and rare (at the time there were only 100 documented cases in the world in the last 10 years). She underwent intensive chemo and a stem cell transplant, and 6 years later she is still in remission. It's a total miracle and I praise God all the time.

we walk for... Audrie
Sep 13, 2011 by Megan Greaves

The Aud Squad is named for Audrie Sparks, my sister, whose life was taken by Hodgkin's Lymphoma in May of 2009. The Aud Squad, however, represents all of our family and friends whose lives have been affected (read: wrecked, turned upside down, taken, and messed with, generally speaking) by all cancer, and specifically, blood cancers.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society provides support for patients and families in these very circumstances, who are dealing with the effects of blood cancers on their loved ones. LLS provides financial support, copay assistance, support groups - and best and most importantly - LLS funds research that will someday, we hope, lead to a cure.

I walk for Audrie... but I also walk for Gram, for Wilson, for Zac, for Glory, for Andrue - I walk to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.

Who are you walking for?

Join our team - walk with us on September 22nd in lovely Wash Park.

Let's be Champions for Cures.

Welcome to my Light The Night Walk Team homepage.

Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual fundraising walk to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer. Hundreds of thousands of participants raise funds for lifesaving research and patient services.

For more than 60 years, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has been solely focused on people with blood cancers. Presently, we have more than $250 million committed to research across the United States and in ten other countries. Every dollar is provided by concerned donors. We invest in the best, outcome based science:

  • Anywhere, with no geographic or institutional boundaries
  • Without profit incentive
  • To meet unmet Medicare needs of people with blood cancers

And LLS funded advances are helping patients beyond those for whom they were originally developed, including people with solid tumors and auto-immune diseases. In the past decade, nearly 50% (19 put of 39) of the cancer drugs approved by the FDA were approved as treatments for blood cancer patients. Twelve are already approved for people beyond those for whom they were first developed. With your help, we are saving lives.

  • A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.
  • A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.
  • A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
  • A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.

Please join our team's effort today by registering to walk or by making a donation. Your participation in the Light The Night Walk will help save lives. Be sure to check our team Web site frequently to see our progress, and thanks for your support!
