Welcome to the Sacramento Area Coalition of Reason’s team homepage for the Light the Night Walk, happening on October 27, 2012, at 5:30 PM, at the State Capitol's west steps.
To fight cancer, we are working with the Foundation Beyond Belief and the Sacramento freethought community to raise $1,000,000 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).
What You Can Do
First, register to walk on October 27th. Second, use your custom fundraising page to invite your friends and family to support you with a donation.
Raise $100 or more and you'll be given a Light the Night T-shirt.
About the Walk
Light the Night is LLS's evening walk and fundraising event to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer. Thousands of participants raise funds for vital, lifesaving research and patient services and, on these special nights, they carry illuminated balloons in a show of support from a caring community.
The Sacramento Area Coalition of Reason has a goal of $5,000. If we reach that goal prior to the walk, we'll have our own tent with our banner on display to celebrate our triumph.
Honoring Christopher Hitchens
The Foundation Beyond Belief has chosen Christopher Hitchens as our Honored Hero for 2012. Hitch died from complications due to esophageal cancer this past year and devoted so much to our movement during his life; now we can give something back in his memory.
Although he did not have a blood cancer, drugs developed for blood cancers are often used to treat other cancers as well. As a result, the research that is funded by LLS could very well help treat esophageal and other cancers.
About the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.
