Hello, my name is Sarah Gailey. I was diagnosed with AML Leukemia on July 3rd 2007--when I was 16. My diagnosis required a bone marrow transplant at City of Hope after going through three rounds of chemo therapy under the guidlines of a clinical trial at Rady Children's Hospital. I had to be in LA for the bone marrow transplant and 100 days after the transplant. Since I live in La Mesa, this was a very long way for my parents to drive in order to take care of me and to continue taking care of my family. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society helped my family by giving us money to be applied toward mileage and prescription medications so that we didn't have to worry so much about the expenses of driving to doctor's appointments and the many other medical expenses. I am in remission now and I would like to help other people who are in similar situations find the resources they need at such a stressful and traumatic time of their lives. Cancer is a hard thing to go through but with more research, more help and more knowledge I believe we will one day be able to find a cure and have more understanding for those whose lives have been effected by cancer.

Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. These treatments have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.

• A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.

• A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.

• A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.

• A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.
