Welcome to our Light The Night Walk homepage.
Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.
This team has been put together in honor of my husband, Gary Zullo's ,fight against lymphoma. A little over 2 years ago Gary went to his primary doctor for a routine physical which included a CBC. He was a perfectly healthy individual and we were both surprised that anything would come back as alarming. Well the journey started 2 years ago because of low platelets. We originally ended up with a diagnosis of Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma exactly 2 days before our son, Michael, was born. By the time we got home his doctor called saying he talked to a collegue and they just weren't 100% sure about the diagnosis so they thought T-Cell LGL fit better (its a form of leukemia that is wait-n-watch).
This past January his doc still wans't 100% sure on that diagnosis and just so happens that I came across an article on cnn about a doc at the NIH similar to Dr. House (from the Fox TV show House) but without the attitude. I forwarded it to Gary and we made things happen to get him up to NIH for a 2nd opinion. We went up to DC in April and on May 5th, 2009 he received the call that neither of us will ever forget. The doc called officially diagnosing him with Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma and the kicker.....he needed chemotherapy ASAP.
He's currently fighting for his life. By the time the walk happens in November we are hoping he will officially be cancer-free and I'd love nothing more than to have him join his team to make a stand against blood cancer.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. These treatments have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.
- A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.
- A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.
- A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
- A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.
Please make a donation to support my participation in the Light The Night Walk and help save lives. Be sure to check my Web site frequently to see my progress, and thanks for your support!
