Welcome to my Light The Night Walk homepage.


I am dedicating my Light The Night Walk (Sept. 24 '09) and fund raising effort to my brother Doug Zwit and his brother in-law Jeff Grayson. My brother Doug was recently diagnosed with Primary Amyloidosis, a rare blood disease. Jeff just lost his battle with Lymphoma and passed away on September 1, 2009. I also want to dedicate this walk to Jo Ann Grayson who has stood by the both of them. She has been an incredible caregiver in the face of so much personal heartbreak.


Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood disease and to commemorate loved ones lost.


LLS funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancer as well as other related blood diseases.


One of these related diseases is Primary Amyloidosis. Primary Amyloidosis is considered a very rare and serious disease that is disabling and life threatening. Unfortunately the fact that it is so rare makes it harder to find funding for research and treatment giving it a lower survival rate than many other blood diseases.


Although not considered a "blood cancer" it is a plasma cell disorder which originates in the bone marrow and is usually treated with chemotherapy. It sometimes occurs with multiple myeloma which is Amyloidosis' connection to LLS and its programs.


LLS generously offers support to persons with Amyloidosis and this is one of the many reasons I support LLS. I encourage everyone to support LLS and the vital research initiatives, patient services and education programs it offers.
