Art is Lighting The Night!
Six years ago in August, I stood near the top of Tumbledown Mountain in Western Maine. While not exactly a climb up Mt. Everest, to me this hike symbolized that my recovery from lymphoma and the damage caused by chemotherapy the previous year was complete. Exactly a year before, I was lying in a hospital bed, so sick and exhausted. And now, I was on top of a mountain!
When I was ill, I promised I would make a difference in the war against cancer, and three marathons, a half marathon, and over $40,000 raised for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) later, I am continuing to raise money for this cause by Lighting the Night on October 29!
Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event. It is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. These treatments have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.
I am asking you to "gimme five" by making at least a five dollar donation to LLS through my Light the Night webpage. However, any donation amount is much appreciated. As a blood cancer survivor, I will be walking with a white balloon in a sea of red balloons. I hope that my efforts will appropriately honor all of those currently fighting blood cancers, and all cancers - and, most importantly, those that fought the good fight but are no longer with us.
I blog about my experiences trying to be an active participant in the war against cancer at Racing for a Cure.
Please make a donation to support my participation in the Light The Night Walk and help save lives. Be sure to check my Web site frequently to see my progress, and thanks for your support!
