We Walk to Save Lives
Jul 17, 2015

The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

FACT:      Your Donations Stay HERE in Tennessee:

  • There are no means of preventing or early screening for most blood cancers… No amount of healthy eating or exercise can reduce your chances of getting blood cancer.  That is why at LLS we are focused on finding cures.  Last year LLS-Tennessee Chapter invested $680,000 in research grants within Tennessee at Vanderbilt and St. Jude.  All of this money came from donations made here in our community.

  • We help blood cancer patients and their families understand their cancer treatments and ensure they have access to quality, affordable and coordinated care.
  • Last year, our Tennessee Chapter of LLS assisted patients and their families in the following ways:
  • 23 patients were given $5,750 in Travel Assistance Funds.  This money helps patients in our Rural Tennessee Counties with transportation costs to and from their chemotherapy treatments and doctor’s appointments.
  • Thanks to research, some patients are now treated with a single chemotherapy pill taken once a day (Gleevec).  A typical prescription fill can cost $7,830 or more for 90 tablets. The Insurance Companies do not cover most of this cost.  Thanks to personal donations, LLS is able to help patients offset this cost by providing them with co-pay assistance.  Last year 359 patients in Tennessee received Co-Pay Assistance totaling $1,083,334.58 and 835 patients received Financial Aid totaling $83,500.

The Light The Night Walk is a fundraising campaign of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) which brings together families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors, as well as those lost to the disease.

During the walk (which is held at night), Champions For Cures carry illuminated lanterns - white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to a blood cancer.

Our Goal for this year is to raise $1,000,000.00 at this walk.  The Tennessee Chapter covers 95 counties. So we need your help with donations to continue to be able to help our fellow Tennesseans who are struggling with the daily battle of fighting blood cancer.
